An afternoon in Paris

Discover Paris or Versailles on Wednesday, after the conference

Set off to explore the most emblematic neighborhoods of Paris. Let our guide take you to the main points of interest in the city and tell you all about the history behind the monuments: Montmartre and its mythical places, the origins of Paris on the Cité and Saint Louis Islands, the Latin Quarter and its students. You might also want to leave the city for the afternoon and visit Louis XIV’s castle in Versailles, wander about its gardens, admire its works of art and the famous « Hall of Mirrors ». For the thematical visits of Paris the fare is 25 € each. The visit of Versailles, including transportation, the guide, the audioguide and the entrance fees, will cost you 47€. All visits will be given in English.
Climb up the hill and let yourself be guided by the Lapin Agile! Aristide Bruant, la Goulue, Toulouse-Lautrec and Dalida will take you through the charming little streets of this famous “village”. Enjoy the bohemian life all around the Sacré Coeur church and discover many famous places: the Moulin-Rouge, the Bateau-lavoir, the Chien-qui-fume or Montmartre’s vineyard.
Many famous artists have immortalized this bucolic and enchanting neighborhood of Paris: Utrillo, Valadon, Van Dongen, Renoir and Woody Allen. You might even run into Amélie Poulain around the corner of Rue Lepic.

Welcome to the historical Paris of the origins, right in the middle of the river Seine, on the Cité island and the Saint Louis island. These two islands, now upperclass neighborhoods will please urbanism and history lovers: visit the Roman Empire’s remains, the Dauphine plaza of king Henry IV, the Town Houses, and one of the city’s most remarkable medieval heritage: Notre-Dame of Paris.
Cross over the river Seine, venture to the tip of the island, at Henri IV’s feet, discover at the corner of a street the Saint-Louis-en-l’Île church, have a stroll around the flower market and revive the memory of Marie-Antoinette at the Conciergerie.
Finally, take a break and let yourself be tempted by the most delicious ice creams of Paris at the famous Berthillon.
Although the 1968’s cobblestones have long been replaced by concrete, the Latin Quarter has kept all its charm: still populated by students, editors and cafés where Parisian intellectuals gather, this neighborhood spreads out from the bottom of Sorbonne University, the corner stone of the whole area since 1253. From the “Thermes de Cluny” to the “Collège de France”, follow the steps of the greatest French philosophers and writers: Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Michel Foucault, Roland Barthes and Claude Lévi-Strauss, who have all contributed to the international reputation of the neighborhood.
Just like a living historical archive, the neighborhood will take you from the Roman foundation of "Lutèce" up to the Pantheon, temple of the French Revolution, without missing the medieval era: the Hotel of Cluny, the Luxembourg Palace, the Arena, the Saint-Michel Plaza and its famous fountain. The Sainte-Genevieve mountain is waiting for you.
A few minutes away from Paris, discover the french gardens of the Versailles Palace. Enjoy its alleys, its fountains, ans its maze where geometry rules.
Follow the steps of the Sun King in one of the most beautiful palaces in the world, with its outstanding architecture, furniture and artwork covering all artistic periods ,notably its notorious hall of mirrors. Your guide will tell you all about this famous palace and its inhabitants. Wether you seek royal settings or rural simplicity, this guided tour will bring to life french history and its art.
The price includes the train fare from Paris to Versailles with your guide, the admission ticket to the palace, the guided visit with a professional lecturer.
