Françoise Vergès

Françoise Vergès is president of the Comité pour la Mémoire et l’Histoire de l’Esclavage, Consulting Professsor at the Center for Cultural Studies, Goldsmiths College, University of London, and former director of the scientific and cultural program for the forthcoming museum and cultural center, Maison des civilisations et de l’unité réunionnaise (2003-2010).

She has written extensively on vernacular practices of memories, slavery and colonialism, race and French republican colonialism, Frantz Fanon, Aimé Césaire, and postcolonial museography. She works with filmmakers and artists and contributes regularly to academic journals.
